Welcome to My Big Blog Secrets. It’s my blog about… well… blogging. For those of you who don’t know much about me or my “other blog,” my name is Dan Pearce, and I started Single Dad Laughing back in July of 2010. It took me four months to turn it into one of the world’s biggest personal blogs, and I’ll tell you exactly how I did it. One post at a time.
I didn’t use tricks or gimmicks to make Single Dad Laughing big in a hurry. It took a lot of elbow grease and help from my followers. It took determination and a lot of trial and error. It took a lot of writing. It took a lot of my time. And… as tricky and tough as some of it has been, it has all been worth it.
With this blog, I wanted to offer something different than what you’ve seen on other blogging blogs. I wanted to create a new blog written by somebody who has actually been there and done that with a personal blog. A place where we actually talk about what it takes to get there, what mistakes you can avoid, and the reality of what big blogging is.
I have a firm belief that anybody who constantly wants others to do as good or better than them will always succeed beyond their own expectations. By sharing all of my blogging secrets with you, it helps you, but it really helps me too. The more good and incredible blogs there are in the world, the more blogging becomes a platform in which the world finds value. Success breeds more success. Traffic breeds more traffic. And believe me, there is plenty of success and attention to go around.
I will be discussing the awesomeness of blogging, and the difficulties of blogging. I will host many discussions on how to write the content that people want to share and that push more people to your blog. I will dissect the many viral posts I’ve written on Single Dad Laughing and talk about what I’ve learned both in writing them, and in the aftermath of those posts. I will talk about what you should have on your blog and what you should steer clear of. We’ll talk about all the perks and benefits that bloggers get as well as how to deal with the bits of ugliness that will inevitably come your way. Single Dad Laughing is a constant work in progress. I’m regularly testing things, investing in things, working to improve it, and trying to weed out what is needless or doesn’t work. I’ll share all of that journey, too.
Be sure to read my post “The Top 10 Perks of Being a Big Blogger.” And… get excited. Blogging can open up doors and opportunities for you in the most unexpected and incredible places. You can be hanging out with movie stars one minute and talking to the producers of national television shows the next and receiving the coolest free stuff you could imagine. If you really want to do it, you can do it.
Don’t buy into the masses saying you can’t do it. Don’t buy into the notion that building big blogs is almost impossible. That there is too much competition. That playing with the big boys is for somebody more talented, more attractive, more witty, more clever, or more _______. It may take you a few months, it may take you a few years. But you can do it. And here’s the kicker… the perks can all be yours with only a fraction of the traffic that I’m currently getting. The question really is… how bad do you want it and how hard are you willing to work to make it happen?
